JMG finally win a match
In Washington DC,
Jan Michael Gambill def. Steven Koubek 7-5,6-4
Gambill到現在才拿到回到北美的第一勝,
其間歷經了三連敗(Newport,Indy,Cincy)
由此就可以看出他今年真是糟糕到了極點,
技術上的缺點及身體的健康問題就先不提了,
他目前心理狀態也是相當不好,
也就是嚴重的缺乏信心!

MASON -- Jan-Michael Gambill said he felt confident entering Monday's first-rou
nd match against ninth-seeded Gaston Gaudio at the Western & Southern Financial
Group Masters.
But he walked off the court a 6-4, 6-2 loser. He said a rash of stupid mistakes
was the culprit.
"I haven't had trouble with Gaudio before," said Gambill, who sported a 2-0 rec
ord against Gaston. "I played him in the U.S. Open two years ago (and won 6-0,
6-2, 6-0). But I played a lot of dumb points."
Monday was just the latest step in a tough year for the Washington native.
In 17 tournaments this season, Gambill has been dispatched in the opening round
10 times, including the past three. He made the quarterfinals in three straigh
t events in February and March, but since then, he's advanced past the second r
ound just once.
"He's not playing like he was before," said Gaudio, the reigning French
Open champion. "The time that he beat me in Miami, he was playing unbelievable.
I don't know what happened to him. So now I come different. I came with a lot
of confidence, and he's on the opposite side."
Gambill's progress was stalled two weeks ago in Indianapolis when he withdrew f
rom his first-round match against Jan Hernych after feeling dizzy.
"It's very frustrating," Gambill said. "I had to take more time off when I know
I haven't trained enough."
Gambill said the root of the problem had been determined -- it was a breathing
problem -- but he declined to discuss the specific ailment.
But he admitted his conditioning still hasn't returned.
"I'm not quite in good enough shape," Gambill said. "It was a rough day."
