Roddick, who is currently defending his US Open title in New York, joins world number one and Australian Open and Wimbledon winner Roger Federer as the second player to officially qualify for the season-ending championships. Roddick made his Masters Cup debut in 2003 in Houston and reached the semi-fina ls before losing to eventual champion Federer. His performance in the tournament ensured he became the youngest American to fi nish as the year-end world number one in the history of the ATP Rankings. The 22-year-old has won four titles so far this year in San Jose, Miami, Queen' s and Indianapolis. "I'm excited about qualifying for the Masters Cup," Roddick said. "I've had a l ot of success in Houston and have great memories from 2003. I hope to make a st rong run at the title it before it leaves the United States." Federer, the defending Masters Cup champion, became the first player to qualify for Houston on August 3 - the earliest anyone has been confirmed a place at th e year-end championships in the history of the tournament. The race for the remaining six spots will be heavily contested through the rema inder of the season, with Guillermo Coria, Lleyton Hewitt and Carlos Moya likel y to be the next players to qualify. The remaining places will probably not be decided until after the US Open and t he Masters Series tournaments in Madrid and Paris.
