Neilly, Kirkland gain first U.S. sweep at Orange Bowl tennis since '74

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) -- Timothy Neilly of Tampa and Jessica Kirkland of Dayt
on, Ohio, won the 18s singles titles Sunday to give the United States its first
sweep since 1974 at the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships.
Neilly, 17, beat Donald Young of Atlanta 6-4, 7-5 to become the Orange Bowl's f
irst black 18s champion in the event's 58 years. Neilly has been working recent
ly with Andy Roddick's former coach, Tarik Benhabiles.
Kirkland, 17, defeated Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia 6-3, 6-2. Kirkland was the r
unner-up in the U.S. Open junior tournament.
