100 ranked players. Leading the entry list is world No. 1 Federer of
Switzerland, the defending US Open champion and reigning Wimbledon champion.
Following Federer on the entry list are No. 2 Hewitt of Australia, the 2001
US Open champion and 2004 runner-up; No. 3 Rafael Nadal of Spain, the
reigning French Open champion; No. 4 Roddick of Austin, Texas, the 2003 US
Open champion; No. 5 Safin of Russia, the 2005 Australian Open champion and
2000 US Open champion; and No. 6 Agassi of Las Vegas, Nev., the 1994 and 1999
US Open champion.
Other American men who received direct entry into this year’s tournament
include No. 30 Taylor Dent of Newport Beach, Calif.; No. 42 Vince Spadea of
Boca Raton, Fla.; No. 68 Mardy Fish of Tampa, Fla.; No. 69 Kevin Kim of
Newport Coast, Calif.; No. 78 Paul Goldstein of San Francisco; No. 97 Justin
Gimelstob of Morristown, N.J.; and No. 98 Robby Ginepri of Marietta, Ga.
