Fish and his U.S. teammates at the World Team Cup visited the NFL Europa team Rhein Fire on Wednesday. He apparently sprained ligaments in his foot while trying to kick a field goal. The 31st-ranked Fish has returned to the United States for treatment, ruling him out of the French Open beginning Sunday. "I don't know how severe it is," teammate James Blake said Thursday. "He's hoping that it is just something where he is off his feet for four, five days and then he can start hitting lightly. If that's the case he will be ready for the grass." Fish was scheduled to play singles Thursday in a match against Sweden at the World Team Cup. He was replaced by doubles specialist Mike Bryan, who lost his match as Sweden won the best-of-three series 2-1. "It's really unfortunate," Blake said. "We all learn not to do silly things and to be more careful if we are going to do anything like that. But we also have to be human beings and live a life. We can't live in a shell or a bubble and only play tennis and never go out and do anything.
