Andy Roddick is poised to claim back-to-back Tennis Masters Series titles and the ATP Champions Race lead after defeating Max Mirnyi 7-6(5), 6-4 to charge into the final of the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters on Saturday. From 1-5 in the first-set tie-break, Roddick won six straight points to steal the set. He then broke Mirnyi in the first game of the second set while refusing to concede his own serve for the fourth straight match. Roddick is 19-1 on the US hard court season and is one win away from joining coach Brad Gilbert and Andre Agassi as the only players in the past 15 years to win 20 hard court matches in the lead-up to the US Open, where he will likely start outright favorite. Roddick has moved to second place in the Race and will replace Roger Federer as leader if he wins the fifth title in his past eight events. Roddick, who has won nine of his past 10 tie-breaks, made just one unforced error during the match. He put 73 percent of first serves into play, including 14 aces. He won 78 percent of points on his second serve and won 85 percent of net approaches. Roddick has not dropped a set this week. Mirnyi was also impressive, making 35 winners to five unforced errors. He won 84 percent of points on his first serve, but just 45 percent of points on his second serve. Mirnyi was the first player since Yevgeny Kafelnikov in 1998 to reach the Cincinnati singles and doubles semifinals. Roddick is attempting to become the first player since Patrick Rafter in 1998 to win the Canada-Cincinnati Tennis Masters Series double. Roddick faced just one break point during the match at 3-2 in the second set. He responded with an ace. Roddick has been broken just 12 times in 20 matches this summer, holding serve exactly 200 times during that period. His win-loss record improves to 54-13 on the season. Roddick said: “It was a super tight match. It could have gone either way, and I was lucky he had one break point and I fought it off, and I had one break point and I got it. It was definitely a battle out there, and I think the level of tennis was pretty high. “I've definitely played a bunch of varying styles over the past couple of weeks or even this week. Yesterday and today were two totally different matches. I'm not trying to think about it too much. I'm just trying to kind of get my strategy on the day depending on who I play and just going for it.” Mirnyi said: “I thought I played all right. The score speaks for itself. I thought I had more opportunities in the first set. I was ahead in the tiebreaker and had my chances. I mean, what can I say? It was a good match. I looked for my opportunities after I lost the set. I had a few, but he certainly plays well right now in the critical moments, and that's why he is where he is right now. “Being up 5-1 you like your chances winning a tiebreaker, no matter who you play, but I made an error with a fairly difficult volley at that point, and then he came up with a great passing shot: inside out forehand. Then that let-cord running backhand that he hit, so it was a string of a couple points that should have gone my way, but didn't.” ---- 從數據上看來 真是場好比賽 唉 只能等播精華時 望梅止渴一下了 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 218.160.140.54 ※ 編輯: lister 來自: 218.160.140.54 (08/17 09:16)
