Gentlemen Start Your Engines! by: Staff 10/13/2003 -- Andy's Monday morning was off to a fast start as he slid behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz racecar to take a lap around the Jarama Circuit, Formula 1 racetrack. The famous Spanish racer, Pedro Martinez de la Rosa, was on hand to give Andy driving tips as they took a lap. Later today, Andy will participate in a reception held at the American Embassy. (from andyroddick.com) RODDICK AND GONZALEZ TRY FORMULA ONE US Open Champion Andy Roddick and Chilean Fernando Gonzalez got a taste for Formula One racing when they went out for a test drive on the Formula One track in Jarama with McLaren Mercedes driver Pedro de la Rosa on Monday. "That was one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had - even more exciting than parachute jumping," said Roddick. The American, who leads the ATP Champions Race, clearly felt safe in the hands of the professional driver, adding, "I may have turned a bit pale at first at the speed we were going, but Pedro is a professional who has perfect control." Meanwhile, Chilean star Fernando Gonzalez tried his hand at driving the high-powered vehicle, clearly impressing de la Rosa. "He was not at all frightened and drove extremely well," noted Rosa.
