It'll definitely promote the sport.
就看Andy如何衡量輕重了
It's now been confirmed that Andy Roddick will indeed host Saturday Night Live
in November. Though any publicity is great for the sport, what's your opinion
on spending so much time on a big project like this (which requires an intense,
full-week commitment to rehearsals, etc.) so close to a huge tournament? I'm a
huge Roddick fan, but shouldn't the tennis come first?

Jon Wertheim:
Reasonable question. The obvious answer, I suppose, is that the proof is in the
proverbial pudding. If he lays an egg in Houston, clearly his decision to spend
the previous week at Rockefeller Center avoiding Jimmy Fallon and admiring Tina
Fey was not a good one. But this question goes back the recurrent theme that
these players can't win. How many times have we heard that Pete Sampras was
more wooden than Gray Davis and the sport of tennis declined in popularity on
his watch in part because he lacked charisma? In Roddick, on the other hand,
we have a kid who -- much like the Williams sisters -- is willing to be an icon,
willing to take tennis beyond the sports pages, willing to help generate some
buzz for the sport. (Were we not recently lamenting how seldom tennis gets its
due on SNL?) It seems unfair to slam him for having his priorities out of
whack.
