BASEL, Switzerland - Andy Roddick and Roger Federer can dispense with fan clubs.
.They've got each other.
The two couldn't say enough good things about each other Monday at the draw for
the Swiss Indoors.
"I like Roger's game a lot," said Roddick, who received the top seeding after
Juan Carlos Ferrero withdrew with groin and foot injuries. "I love watching
him. I definitely admire him."
Countered Federer, now seeded second at his home tournament: "If he's not the
best then he is definitely one of the best."
Roddick has one of the most powerful serves in tennis. Federer plays more of
a finesse game.
"He is almost artistic. It would be fun to be able to hit some of the shots he
plays," Roddick said. "I play more brutal tennis. That's the way I have to
play. He plays instruments, I just bang on the drum."
Winner of six titles this season and a semifinalist at the Australian Open and
Wimbledon, Roddick has a 64-15 record this year.
Federer, the Wimbledon champion, also has six titles this season and has the
ATP's best record of 70-15. He is ranked third.
"We've known each other a long time," Federer said. "But to be honest I don't
remember him too well from juniors."
"That's because I was awful," Roddick said.
