On Thursday, Roddick took over the World No. 1 position by reaching the quarterfinals at the Masters Series event in Paris while current No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero lost in the third round. Roddick, who also regained the lead in the ATP Champions Race over Ferrero, looks to improve his lead over Ferrero and No. 3 Roger Federer heading into the Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, Nov. 8-16. Roddick has won a career-high six titles this season, including his first Grand Slam at the US Open last month along with Tennis Masters titles in Montreal and Cincinnati. Roddick is the fourth-youngest player to rank No. 1. The 21-year-old Roddick is the 22nd player in the history of the ATP Rankings to hold No. 1 for the first time. He will officially take over No. 1 on Monday when the next rankings are released. Roddick is the fourth different player (Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Ferrero) to hold No. 1 in the ATP Entry Ranking this season.
