Valencia And Rufete Terminate Contract
Valencia have released winger Joaquin Perez Rufete from his
contract after reaching an agreement with the player.
Rufete was a regular during his three years under Benitez,
helping Valencia to two League titles as well as the Uefa Cup.
However, he has played only a bit part role in the side in the
two years since.
The right-winger had been told by coach Quique Flores that he
did not enter his plans for the new season, and left out of
the pre-season training camp in the Netherlands last week.
The club met with the player and his agent this week to sort
out his future, and it was agreed that the two parties terminate
the contract, leaving Rufete free to look for a club.
Espanyol had earlier registered interest, but were unwilling
to pay a transfer fee. This should pave the way for the Catalans
to move for an agreement with the player, although other Spanish
clubs such as Zaragoza are also rumoured to be ready to step in.
