Vince’s Third Invigorates Nets; Kidd Gives Historic Assist

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Feb. 5 (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons boast the
second-best defense in the NBA, but they could not stop the combination of
Vince Carter and Jason Kidd.
Carter scored a season-high 41 points and Kidd handed out 14 assists as the New
Jersey Nets snapped the Pistons' five-game winning streak with a 107-85
victory.
Carter, who fell one point shy of Richard Jefferson's season high for the Nets,
outscored the Pistons by himself in the third quarter with 15 points. He also
grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds.
With his fourth assist, Kidd passed Bob Cousy to move into 12th place on the
NBA's all-time list. Kidd's final assist enabled him to surpass Kenny Anderson
as the Nets' all-time leader with 2,364.
The Pistons were held without a field goal for the final 10 minutes of the
third period and the first 55 seconds of the fourth quarter. They managed just
11 points in the third quarter.
With 4? minutes left in the third, New Jersey held only a 63-61 lead, but
Carter scored the Nets' next nine points. New Jersey finished the quarter with
a 16-2 spurt to take a 79-63 lead into the final period.
Tayshaun Prince paced the Pistons with 17 points.
