June 12, 2007 -- The Nets' draft search for size continues almost daily. And so does the quest to keep Vince Carter in New Jersey. While stressing nothing was pending, team president Rod Thorn yesterday acknowledged talks with Carter's camp are continuing, and sounded guardedly optimistic the Nets will be able to keep their leading scorer. "There's not really anything imminent to report, but have we had conversations? Yes, we have," said Thorn, who watched four more draft hopefuls, including 6-10 Cal forward/center DeVon Hardin, yesterday in a joint workout session with the Knicks in Greenburgh. "We've said we'd like to sign Vince, and nothing has changed about that," Thorn said. "Hopefully, we'll get it done." Carter has until the end of the month to opt out of the final season of his contract, worth $16.3 million. The consensus feeling is he will do that but then remain in New Jersey with a new contract. Figure he gets a four-year deal totaling in the $60 million to $65 million neighborhood. And while talks progress on the Carter front, Thorn squashed a rumor of Richard Jefferson to Portland for power forward Zach Randolph. "I never had a conversation with them," Thorn said. "They have talked to several teams, but we were not one of them." For the immediate future, the Nets look to satisfy their need for frontcourt size and athleticism through the draft. They already have worked out several big men who have impressed. Hardin, though considered raw offensively, is a guy who will be added to the Nets' mix for their pick at 17.
