Behind a balanced scoring attack, the Monarchs posted a 73-58 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks to win their best-of-three Western Conference first-round series two games to one. Lisa Leslie and Yolanda Griffith combined for 25 points in Game 3. Sacramento had been knocked out of the playoffs in three previous meetings with the Sparks - 1999, 2001 and 2003. It will face the Seattle Storm in the best-of-three Western Conference Finals. DeMya Walker, Tangela Smith and Kara Lawson each had 17 points and Yolanda Griffith chipped in 14 as the Monarchs slowly pulled away in the second half, ending the game with their biggest lead. Smith scored 12 of her points in the first half and Lawson hit five free throws in the closing minutes. Sacramento was 19-of-24 from the line and shot 82 percent in its two wins. The Monarchs did their damage inside, outscoring Los Angeles in the paint, 40-20. Sacramento held Sparks star center LisaLeslie to just 11 points. Leslie, who entered the series with a 19.8 playoff scoring average, scored just 34 points in the three games. Los Angeles, the highest-scoring team in the league during the regular season, was held to 25 second-half points and shot just 38 percent from the floor overall. Mwadi Mabika scored 19 points and Nikki Teasley had 16 as the Sparks fell at home for just the third time in 19 games, including the regular season.
