[日記] Out of The Box With Unique #1 [6/30/2005]
Out of the Box With Unique June 30
Welcome Back! Sorry I missed you guys last
week but we were extremely busy during our
home-stand. Instead of doing a rush job and
not centering my thoughts, I wanted to wait
before posting my next entry. I figured that
after the completion of our six game home-stand,
plus a road trip to Detroit and Indiana, it
would give me something to talk about. When
we travel, I have lots of free time in the
airport and hotel room just to relax and be
by myself. Well, it probably helps that I
room by myself. Now as the weekend approaches
I hope you can kick back and enjoy some of
your favorite activities. The weather here
has been beautiful and the sun has been shining.
The temperature in LA has been perfect, about 70-80 degrees.
We have been playing some pretty good basketball
lately and I think we are finally meshing as
a team. A big reason for our recent success is
that we are learning what our strengths and
weaknesses are as a team. We had wins against
Sacramento, Houston, Minnesota, Seattle, and
Indiana. In those wins we really did a great
job on the defensive end as we were dictating
where we wanted to send the offensive players
on the floor. In our losses to Connecticut and
Detroit we didn’t play good defense and got
killed on the boards. When we play an aggressive
style of defense, it allows us to create our
offense from our defense. We are moving the ball
a lot better offensively, and getting lay-ups
and uncontested jump shots. We have definitely
gotten a lot better with our execution and are
getting to option number 2 and 3. When we execute,
boy it is a pretty thing. We have two home games
before the All-Star break so we have to end on a
good note. Go Sparks!
Outside of basketball I’ve just been resting
up and taking care of my body. On a normal day
we finish practice no later than 1pm. After
practice I normally grab a bite to eat or cook
some lunch and relax. While I’m chilling at
the crib, I love listening to music – it’s
probably one of my favorite things to do – it
gets me in my zone. I find it interesting how
music just warms the soul. I’m sure you all
can relate. Whenever I have gone through a tough
time, I can recall the song or songs that helped
get me through it. Every significant moment in
my life has a song that has helped to remind me
of the moment. I love all genres of music but my
favorites are soul music and hip-hop. I love
listening to underground artist because the music
is pure and from the heart, and it hasn’t yet
been contaminated with commercialism. You rarely
will catch me listening to the radio. I’m always
listening to my iPOD, that way I have control
and don’t have to listen to some of the garbage
that some of these stations play. Nikki T. (#42)
has been giving me a hard time lately saying if
someone took my iPOD I wouldn’t know what to do
because I’m always listening to music and singing
in the locker room. She is right. However, if I
did lose it, I would be alright because I have
backup iPOD’s! My music collection is serious
and forever expanding. I will share with you my
top ten albums of all time (no particular order):
Top Ten Albums
1. Marvin Gaye- What’s Going On
2. Jay-Z- Reasonable Doubt
3. Lauryn Hill- The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
4. Raphael Saadiq- Instant Vintage
5. Prince- Purple Rain
6. Whitney Houston- Whitney Houston
7. Al Green- I’m Still In Love With You
8. Sheryl Crow- Tuesday Night Music Club
9. Stevie Wonder- Hotter Than July
10. Nas- Illmatic
I was in heaven this week because some of my
favorite artists had new releases. I was able
to go to iTUNES while on the road and download
new albums by Vivian Green, Anthony Hamilton,
and my D.C boy Raheem Devaughn. I would
encourage everyone if you like Soul music
to pick up the Love Experience, Raheem’s
new release. He’s a talented brother whose
style is original. On top of that, he’s a
WNBA supporter so I’ve got to give him some love.
Rah--keep killing them you can’t be stopped!
I listen to your music before every game and
what stays on my mind is the song “Until.”
The lines that I feel in my heart are: “What
you know about chasing dreams to survive, what
you know about sacrificing all your wants for
all your needs- Until you know my joy and know
my pain and know my struggle- Until you walked
these shoes paid my dues and felt my trouble-
Until you have lived my tears and know my fears
you don‘t know nothing- What u know about late
night prayers and late night tears hoping God
hears- Don’t you know the last shall be first
and the first shall be last you don’t know
nothing you only know what you think you know.”
Thanks for your gift.
Well, since I’m around the team a lot I thought
it would be cool for me to start interviewing my
teammates. This week my guest is Tamika Whitmore

You are having a great season thus far. What
adjustments did you make in your game after
your first season with the Sparks?
Nothing really. I just recommitted myself to

What person in history would you like to meet dead or alive?
Thomas Jefferson. I would ask him why he didn’t
intend for African Americans to be counted in the
constitution, when he had affairs with several
African American children and one of his slaves.
I’m on a flight from Indiana to L.A and I need to
get some rest. We left the hotel at 6am and will
arrive in L.A at 10:30am and have the day off. I’m
thankful that I can go get a facial and just chill.
A home cooked meal is definitely in the plans so I’ll
be the chef today. Thanks for checking out my diary
and I look forward to touching base with all of you
next week. Until then, be safe and blessings.

God has blessed us all. Your blessings shine even more
when you learn to pull from the heart allowing your
