The 2012 WNBA Draft presented by Boost Mobile will be held on Monday, April 16 at ESPN in Bristol, Conn. ESPN2 will provide coverage and analysis of the first round beginning at 2 p.m. ET, in addition, ESPN3 will simulcast the entire draft. The second and third rounds will be broadcast on ESPNU and NBA TV. The WNBA and its marketing partners continue the celebration of women’s basketball through a variety of innovative activities. Boost Mobile became the first league wide marquee partner of the WNBA last season and will serve as the presenting partner of the Draft for the first time. Boost Mobile will have an integrated presence at the event and within the telecast, along with prominent exposure on WNBA.com and inclusion in WNBA social media channels. An associate partner of the WNBA Draft, Jamba Juice will have a strong presence both on-air and online. Also, as part of its commitment to promote fitness and healthy nutrition, Jamba Juice will help the draftees keep up their energy throughout the day with samplings of their delicious and healthy snacks. After winning the WNBA’s Draft Lottery, the Los Angeles Sparks hold the first overall pick for the second time in team history. The last time was in 2008 when the Sparks made Candace Parker the top overall selection. Parker went on to win both Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards in her first WNBA campaign. The Seattle Storm will have the second pick in the Draft followed by the Minnesota Lynx. Minnesota, which, after winning the Lottery last year used the No. 1 overall pick to select Maya Moore and went on to earn its first WNBA championship. The Tulsa Shock will select fourth. Among the top prospects eligible for this year’s WNBA Draft are the following players: Nnemkadi Ogwumike from Stanford, Samantha Prahalis from Ohio State, Natalie Novosel and Devereaux Peters from Notre Dame and Shekinna Stricklen from the University of Tennessee. WNBA.com, in addition to providing comprehensive draft-day coverage, will serve as the web destination for fans who want to track top prospects from mid-March through April. The WNBA will tip off its 16th season as part of WNBA Tip-Off 2012 presented by Boost Mobile on Friday, May 18, when two of the league's top stars square off as Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks visit Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm.
