Scouting Report: Pitchers
Matt Thornton,也覺得有點可惜。下一篇我會把野手部分打上來。
(最近家裡網路不穩,害我斷線少賺不少錢......)
ROTATION
========
RHP Jose Contreras
2006 stats: 13-9, 4.27, 1.27 WHIP, 196.0 IP, 134 SO, 55 BB, .256 BA.
Throws: A 91-95 mph fastball, a slurve and a forkball.
Tendencies:
Has very long arm action but a deceptive fastball that really gets
on the hitter quickly. Has a deliberate delivery that adds to the
deception. Breaking ball is more of a quick, running slurve. Throws
the forkball more than half the time on a given day; has two different
types-- one thatstarts higher for a strike, another that starts in
the middle, drops to the dirt and often produces a swing strikeout.
Outlook:
Contreras has two plus pitches and can log more than 200 innings.
He has exceptional mound presence and good enough command to win
20 games.
Grade: 8.6
LHP Mark Buehrle
2006 stats: 12-13, 4.99, 1.45 WHIP, 204.0 IP, 98 SO, 48 BB, .305 BA
Throws: A fastball from 86-90 mph, a cut fastball, a curveball, a
slider and a circle change.
Tendencies:
Struggled through a down 2006 season. Had problems establishing his
cut fastball and made too many mistakes in the middle of the plate.
Has a good delivery but struggles when hitters adjust and become
more patient, which forces him deeper into counts. Has good tailing
action on his fastball. Shows curve early and uses slider much like
his cutter. Turns over change to run away from righthanded hitters.
Outlook:
Buehrle needs to trust his stuff and attack the zone, especially
early in the count. If he can force hitters to chase his fastball
and slider off the plate, he will bounce back to win 15 games.
Grade: 8.5
RHP Jon Garland
2006 stats: 18-7, 4.51, 1.36 WHIP, 211.1 IP, 112 SO, 41BB, .294 BA
Throws: An 88-93 mph sinker, a curveball, a slider and a changeup.
Tendencies:
Has a consistent sinker for a pitcher who throws over the top. Has
improved his command and is pitching more off his fastball. Starting
to throw his slider more than the curve because of his ability to
control it. Has become more confident challenging hitters.
Outlook:
Garland, an 18-game winner last year, is an upper-rotation guy with
durability.
Grade: 9.2
RHP Javier Vazquez
2006 stats: 11-12, 4.84, 1.29 WHIP, 202.2 IP, 184 SO, 56 BB, .259 BA
Throws: A fastball from 89-94 mph, a curveball, a slider and a split-
finger pitch.
Tendencies:
Changes arm angle consistently and will add and substrate from his
fastball. A strikeout pitcher with good command and a tight-biting
curve with good rotation. Slider is quick but occasional flat.
Offspeed pitch is a splitter that sinks sharply; will throw it to
lefthanded and righthanded hitters.
Outlook:
Vazquez's stuff improved last year. He throws three quality pitches
with command from a variety of release points. He's a solid
mid-rotation starters.
Grade: 8.4
RHP Gavin Floyd
2006 stats: 4-3, 7.29, 1.88 WHIP, 54.1 IP, 34 SO, 32 BB, .315 BA
Throws: A fastball from 88-91 mph, a curveball and a changeup.
Tendencies:
Has above-average stuff but struggles with confidence. Tend to
overanalyze, and has difficulty repeating his delivery. Has lost
velocity on his once mid-90's fastball. Curve can be his best pitch
but is inconsistent; it too often has a big lateral break that's hard
to control. Has good movement on change and should use it more. Does
not handle adversity well.
Outlook:
Floyd will benefit from a fresh start after the Phillies gave up on him.
The Sox gambled by taking him in the Freddy Garcia trade and will give
him every chance to win a job
Grade: 6.0
CLOSER
======
RHP Bobby Jenks
2006 stats: 3-4, 4.00, 41 SV, 1.39 WHIP, 69.2 IP, 80SO, 31 BB, .253 BA
Throws: A fastball at 94-100 mph, a hard curveball nad a slider.
Tendencies:
One of the game's hardest throwers; fastball can reach 100, but he
pitches comfortably in the upper 90s. Very difficult for hitters to lay
off his riding four-seamer. Has a very hard curve with tight rotation.
Starting to throw a slider with late bite and good depth. Has a good
delivery and angle to the plate from the top.
Outlook:
With his improved delivery and command, Jenks has joined the ranks of
elite closers.
Grade: 9.2
SETUP MAN
=========
RHP Mike MacDougal
2006 stats: 1-1, 1.55, 0.93 WHIP, 21 SO, 6 BB, .206 BA.
Tendencies:
Has a herky-jerky, maximum effort delivery with a lot of deception.
Throws a heavy, boring fastball that's difficult tfor hitters to pick
up. Occasionally will cut his fastball, but it stays flat. Slider has
good depth with a sharp break; tends to overthrow it.
Outlook:
MacDougal is more comforable in a setup role because of his high pitch
counts.
Grades: 6.5
