http://ppt.cc/R1-y White Sox reportedly land veteran infielder Keppinger The White Sox may have found their man at third base, reportedly agreeing to a three-year contract with free agent Jeff Keppinger. Keppinger, 32, is coming off a career year with Tampa Bay and drew significant interest in a thin third-base crop on the open market. Multiple news outlets have confirmed Keppinger's three-year contract, with Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com and MLB Network initially reporting the deal. FOX's Ken Rosenthal reported that the White Sox will pay Keppinger about $12 million over the term of the contract. After signing a one-year contract last winter, Keppinger thrived in a utility role with the Rays, batting .325 with an .806 OPS. With only 173 strikeouts in his eight-year career, Keppinger has always been known for his ability to make contact, but he added a career-high nine homers in just 385 at-bats for Tampa Bay last season. He primarily played first and third for the Rays last season, but could become Chicago's everyday third baseman. White Sox third basemen posted a combined .201/.286/.314 batting line last season, and Keppinger should offer a significant upgrade in that regard. A right-handed hitter who has made a living crushing left-handed pitching, Keppinger is a career .288/.337/.396 hitter and has played every infield position. Keppinger reportedly underwent surgery earlier this offseason to repair a break in his right fibula he suffered after tripping down the stairs in his home. However, he is expected to be fully healthy by mid-January and therefore ready to go when Spring Training begins.
