Jeff Manto was relieved of his duties as White Sox hitting coach following
the team's 6-5 victory against the Royals on Saturday night. Assistant hitting
coach Harold Baines will handle Manto's responsibilities for Sunday's season
finale against K.C.
Manto was in his second year in charge of the White Sox offense, but this
2013 campaign had far worse results than '12.
After the White Sox ranked fourth in the American League in runs scored
during a 2012 season in which they sat atop the AL Central for 117 days,
they entered Saturday last in that category for '13. They also were last or
second to last in homers, OBP, slugging and OPS.
Prior to joining the White Sox staff, Manto served as Minor League hitting
coordinator for the franchise from 2008-11.
