Navratilova undecided about playing at Wimbledon

PARIS, May 25 (Reuters) - Nine-times Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova sai
d she was undecided whether to request a wildcard for the grasscourt event afte
r being beaten in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old was beaten 6-1 6-3 by 19-year-old Gisela Dulko of Argentina, bu
t her decision to request a wildcard for Roland Garros prompted many to suggest
she would play singles at Wimbledon for the first time since 1994.
"Well, I will see how the body holds up but I would need to win a few more matc
hes at Eastbourne before I would consider playing at Wimbledon," she said.
"If you look at the scoreline you would say it was a kill, but if you watched t
he match, I could have been 4-3 up in the first set.
"I did not play the big points well. That was the problem."
Despite her defeat, Navratilova said she believed she would still be competitiv
e on the singles tour, if she were to make a permanent comeback.
"I could make a living, definitely. I didn't play as well as I wanted to today
but it wasn't about getting publicity or being on TV.
"It's about getting more practice for doubles, and it's already working. I am g
etting better."
Navratilova won the mixed doubles with Leander Paes at Wimbledon last year to r
ecord her 58th grand-slam title, which includes 18 singles victories.
