Maria Sharapova:
"We had a lot of great points, I thought," said Sharapova. "I was able to pick
up my game when I needed to and forced her to make some unforced errors. I was
definitely pleased with the way I played.
"I was dictating the whole match. I thought I returned quite well. I thought I
put a lot of pressure on her serve, and at crucial points of the match I don't
think she put a lot of first serves in when she needed to."
Venus Williams:
"It was definitely not my best match," she said. "I think I've still got a way
to go with my serve. I wouldn't say I'm too far off. It's just the little
things. I'm not always swinging freely because a lot of times I hit it out.
"It's still two good points, three or four bad points, and I've got to rein it
in. With this sort of play it gives your opponent the opportunity to stay in
there and think they have a chance."
Venus finally knows what she needs to work on. I honestly don't think she knew
this until the US Open, in fact she pretty much said so herself.
Now that Venus knows, let's see how long it is before she improves.
