By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: November 17, 2004 Filed at 3:01 p.m. ET COMPTON, Calif. (AP) -- A judge refused Wednesday to dismiss the case against a man charged with murdering the half-sister of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. Superior Court Judge Jack W. Morgan rejected the defense motion and ordered Robert Edward Maxfield back to court on Nov. 29 to determine whether his current attorney will continue with the case. Advertisement Yetunde Price, 31, of Corona, was shot while riding through Compton in September 2003. A mother of three and a beauty shop owner, she was also a personal assistant to her sisters, who began their tennis careers in Compton. Prosecutors said Maxfield, a member of the Southside Crips, seized an assault weapon and fired 11 shots at the car driven by Price's boyfriend. Authorities say Aaron Michael Hammer, 25, has acknowledged firing about six shots. State law allows a murder charge for taking part in a crime in which a person is killed by someone else. A separate jury deadlocked 9-3 earlier this month in favor of acquitting Hammer of murder. He was ordered to return to court to determine if he will face trial again. Maxfield's first trial ended with a mistrial last week after jurors said they were deadlocked, with five voting to convict, six believing Maxfield was not guilty and one juror unable to decide. Both face 25 years to life in prison if convicted -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.204.55.172
