[訪問] 大小威的練習搭檔Jovan Savic的訪問
The sisters' hitting partner is a Serbian guy Jovan Savic. He used to be a
pro player too, but because of some injuries he had to stop. He met them in
1999 and since then he's been working with them.
Here are the parts of the interview:
Reflecting on year 2004:
"There's not a single player who never had a bad period in his career. It
happens to everyone. Even Sampras had a season or two when he wasn't on his
best. A lot of things happened to Venus and Serena last year. They were
injured, their sister was murdered. In fact, I'd say Serena actually had a
very good season, given her knee injury.
On Venus's poor form in 2004:
"She's already involved in business. She's into fashion, decorating... She
fully realized there's more to life than tennis. That is one of the reasons
she wasn't so great last year. Although she does have people around her who
take care of her business, she still needs to dedicate a lot of time to
running her companies. She couldn't focus 100% on tennis and that took
its toll."
On their future:
"I'm sure they will play for at least 4 seasons more and I am totally
convinced they will be dominant once again, if they manage to stay
healthy. In fact, maybe it wasn't that bad for them to have one poor season
like 2004, because it showed them they have to focus 100% on tennis if they
want to be successful. While they were recovering from injuries they had many
other things on their minds and they neglected tennis a bit. Now they realize
they will have to change it."
On Russian revolution:
"Sharapova is the only one who has shown really great potential and who has
improved. Myskina and Kuznetsova took advantage of the Williams's sisters
poor form, Kim's and Justine's problems and Davenport's injury at US Open.
I'm not saying Myskina and Kuznetsova are bad players, far from that, but I
am sure that if all the players had been healthy they wouldn't have won a GS."
His role:
"I'm no longer just a hitting partner. I also prepare their tactics before
their matches, together we analize their opponent's game, watch their matches
together. I travel a lot with them, sometimes I'm the only one who is with
them at tournaments."
On their personality:
"They are wonderful. Very loyal to those who help them. They are very
positive, always in good mood. Though I'd say Venus is a bit more
mature and serious, Serena is more of a joker."
Their trainings:
"I like hitting with both of them equally, although it's more difficult to hit
with Venus. She's very serious with her shots, it's like a real match - all
or nothing. Even then she insists on hitting winners."
