BERLIN (AP) -- Australian Open champion Serena Williams on Friday pulled out of next week's German Open because of an ankle injury.
The fourth-ranked Williams had been hoping to play in this important clay-court tuneup for next month's French Open.
Fifth-ranked Elena Dementieva already had withdrawn from the German Open
