Wizards Tag Blake, Brown By Ivan Carter Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, June 30, 2005; Page E03 The Wizards extended qualifying offers yesterday to forward Kwame Brown and guard Steve Blake, making both players restricted free agents. The move allows the Wizards to match any free agent offers the players might receive. Teams will be eligible to negotiate with players starting tomorrow. If the new collective bargaining agreement is formally ratified, teams can begin to sign players July 22. Brown, who was the top overall pick in the 2001 draft, averaged 7.0 points and 4.9 rebounds in 42 games last season before being suspended by the team during its first-round playoff series against Chicago. Blake was a second-round pick by the Wizards in 2003. He has averaged 5.4 points and 2.3 assists in 118 games with the team. The Wizards, who will soon begin negotiations with free agent Larry Hughes, have seven players under contract for next season: Gilbert Arenas, Jarvis Hayes, Brendan Haywood, Antawn Jamison, Jared Jeffries, Peter John Ramos and Etan Thomas.
