NEW YORK -- Guard John Wall, who wowed the college basketball world with his
shot-making, finesse and speed in his one season at Kentucky, was selected by
the Washington Wizards as the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft on Thursday.
The Wizards choice of the 6-foot-4 Wall seemed like a foregone conclusion for
weeks.
The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to follow with national player of the
year Evan Turner from Ohio State with the second pick. Turner said he talked
about the notoriously tough Philly fans with new coach and former Sixers
guard Doug Collins and was told "as long as you play tough, you're a
competitor and play with passion, you'll survive here."
With the third pick, the New Jersey Nets will select Georgia Tech freshman
Derrick Favors over Syracuse's Wesley Johnson, a source told ESPN.com early
Thursday.
