2014 US OPEN 7/1~7/5 廖振珽 參加 : 1. Men's Singles, 2. U21 Men's Singles, 3. Junior Boy's ************************************************* US Open 各項比賽 參加選手名單 http://register.usatt.org/tournaments/listevents.php ************************************************* http://ppt.cc/sP52 This year. The seeding is based world ranking first then USATT rating. Therefore, some high level players, who don’t have world ranking, will have to player each other in the preliminary round robins. It got worse for those players who have neither world ranking and USATT rating. For example, the Japanese squad that I reported the other day (http://goo.gl/ishdz3). Some people would have early exit because of this. However, I guess there is no good solution for this. After all, player fight for medals, not just get out of the round robin. Here are some my random observation in Men’s Singles: - Here are the top 10 players based on the USATT rating: Keinath, Thomas (2816) Wang, Zhen (Eugene) (2804) Chen, Bob (2750) Tao, Wenzhang (2722) Zhou, Xin (2720) Zhang, Xiang Jing (2714) Zhang, Kai (2708) Liang, Yonghui (2686) Mizuno, Yuya (2685) Li, Bochao (2649) Among them, only Thomas Keinath(2816) and Eugene Wang(2804) were seeded. All the rest were seeded behind the 37 players with world ranking. For example, the winner of the 2013 US Open U21 Men’s Singles and semifinalist in the Men’s Final is seeded #39 this time - bad news for the players in his preliminary round. It turned out all but two Japanese players advanced from their groups. Tao WenZhang (2722) and Zhang Kai (2708) were the only two who defeated the Japanese players in their groups. In addition to the Japanese players, some “unknown” Chinese players also caused some “upsets”. For example, Chen Keda (group 1), Qian Yujie (group 2), Jin Yuxiang (group 10), Li XingChang (group 13), and Zhu Jiajun (group 19). All of them were the D players in their groups. As of this is written, the bay area players who are still in the Men’s Singles (final 32) are: - Shivi Kumar - Kunal Chodri(2480) - Dan Liu(2579) - Xin Zhou whose next round opponent will be Ueda Jin who upset Chuan Chih-Yuan at the Japan Open two weeks ago. - Liang Yonghui - Geng Shupeng(2638) - Timothy Wang(2615) ******************************************************** Dangerous Zero Rating Players at the 2014 US Open - Part III (Photo of Ueda Jin courtesy of Tischtennis.NEWS-on-Tour.de) Part I, Sathiyan Gnanasekarun http://goo.gl/I5kSWw Part II, Liao Cheng-Ting http://goo.gl/V0QTAs 2014 US Open entry list page: http://register.usatt.org/tournaments/listevents.php 190 players have entered for the Men’s Singles in the 2014 US Open. People often overlook the players without the USATT rating. However, don't be surprised if they make some noise at the coming US Open. Sathiyan of India and Liao of Chinese Taipei have been mentioned in the previous posts. Upon a quick investigation, there are more from the Japanese squad.
