The online magazine polled "100 Hall of Famers, major award winners and other baseball personalities" to come up with its rankings. Mets starter Johan Santana is ranked third behind the Yankees third baseman. Pujols received 55 first-place votes, ahead of Rodriguez's 11. Rodriguez's admission that he used banned substances hurt him with some voters. "He has put up some great numbers, but I don't like to talk too much about guys who've had some steroids issues," said Al Kaline, one of 13 Hall of Famers who voted. "I don't like to build up those players. That's more or less glorifying somebody who has cheated." The Mets have the most players on the list (6), followed by the Yankees (5). Other local players on the list: 8. Derek Jeter, Yankees SS 9. Mariano Rivera, Yankees closer 13. David Wright, Mets 3B 17. Mark Teixeira, Yankees 1B 22. Jose Reyes, Mets SS 23. Carlos Beltran, Mets CF 29. CC Sabathia, Yankees starter 34. Francisco Rodriguez, Mets closer 47. Carlos Delgado, Mets 1B Among chief rivals, the Red Sox and Phillies each have four players on the list . For the Red Sox, it's pitcher Josh Beckett (16), 2B Dustin Pedroia (18), first baseman Kevin Youkilis (36) and left fielder Jason Bay (41). For the Phillies, it's second baseman Chase Utley (6), first baseman Ryan Howard (11), shortstop Jimmy Rollins (15) and starter Cole Hamels (49). Former Mets or Yankees Orel Hershiser, Ed Kranepool, Mike Mussina, Phil Niekro, Paul O'Neill, Steve Phillips, Bobby Richardson, Tom Seaver, Buck Showalter, Ron Swoboda, Frank Tanana and Don Zimmer were members of the voting panel.
