In the first semifinal of the Open Seat Godo, Carlos Moya impressively defeated Argentina's Agustin Calleri 7-6(2), 6-2. Calleri did not convert a set point in the first set and the 26-year-old Spaniard from Mallorca will play his second final in Barcelona after he lost to Ferrero in the 2001 final. "It is always difficult to play against Calleri because he hits the ball very hard. I tried to make him move and did not allow him to play his game " said Moya after reaching the final. "It was very important for me to win this match since I really want to win in Barcelona." Calleri could not stay with his game plan. "I had planned with my coach a completely different match trying to go often to the net since I thought I could attack Carlos there infront, but Carlos did not allow me to play this way and it is difficult to change with a guy like this that plays so well" said Calleri. "I think it really hit me not to convert the set point and he played very solid today." On Sunday, Moya will make his second appearance in the Open Seat Godo final. Two years ago he lost the final to fellow countryman Ferrero in a very exciting five-set final. Joining Moya in Sunday's final will be Marat Safin, who advanced to his second Open Seat Godo final by defeating top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero, 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday. Safin has never lost in the Pista Central of the Real Club de Tenis de Barcelona and his last loss in Barcelona came in 1999 when he lost to Tommy Robredo in the quarterfinals on Court 1. On Sunday, the 23-year-old Safin will appear in his first final of the season,and will be looking to capture his 12th ATP title. "I'm really happy to be in a final again. I am playing better everyday after the injuries I have had and this final is a great thing in order to gain some confidence in my game," Safin said. "Hopefully I will get some more matches under my belt also next week in Valencia before playing the Masters Series event in Rome and Hamburg together with Roland Garros." When asked about his goals for the year, Safin replied, "I need to win the big tournaments to fight for the top spot at the end of the Champions Race. This tournament is one of those big tournaments and then I will have the chance in Rome and Hamburg to catch up and get my Race position higher in order to have a shot at the top spot at the end of the year." Safin found himself with a 6-4, 5-0 lead but Ferrero managed to break the Russian and came back with an impressive game."He never stops and everything was going well till the 5-0," Safin said. "He then came back to a 5-3 and it would have been very dangerous if he would have broke me again to stay in the match. He played very relaxed at the end and started hitting very hard the ball." "Marat is a very difficult player and when he plays good it is difficult to stop," Ferrero said. " I was feeling okay physically but did not play too well in the first set. You can't always play well and win." When asked about the possibility of seeing Andre Agassi become the No. 1 player in the ATP Entry Ranking, Ferrero said "It is good to see Andre up there. The rivalry is always good although it is difficult to do what (Lleyton) Hewitt has done for all this time. "I am currently No. 3 and I will fight to reach the goal of becoming No. 1." SUNDAY FINAL Carlos Moya goes for his second final of the year and the13th title of his career on Sunday when he faces Marat Safin. Moya won earlier this year at the Copa AT&T in Buenos Aires. A win by Safin would make him successfully continue his unbeaten streak in Barcelona since he won the title back in 2000.
