The winner of Milan is in top form and he is in the select company of the former winners of Rosmalen, Richard Krajicek and Sjeng Schalken, who had been contracted earlier, and of the finalist of Rotterdam, Raemon Sluiter. John van Lottum takes part in the main tournament thanks to a wild card. The Dutch toppers will have a tough time to keep the top-10 players Marat Safin and Paradorn Srichaphan from the final victory. Other famous players are Tommy Robredo, Nicolas Kiefer and the French Arnaud Clement and Nicolas Escude. This year, the ladies-field is exceptionally strong with the top-10 players Justin Henin-Hardenne and Ameie Mauresmo. Together with Kim Clijsters, the present number 2 of the world rankings, who had been contracted earlier, they will compete for the desired title.
