Re: [ATP]Stuttgart Day 3
賽後報導節錄:
No. 4 seed Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean also was an upset victim, falling to
Italian Filippo Volandri 6-2, 6-1. Grosjean was coming off a semifinal run at
Wimbledon, but appeared to have trouble adjusting to the slower clay courts.
No. 5 seed Czech Jiri Novak, however, avoided the upset bug, defeating
Armenia's Sargis Sargsian 6-4 6-4. Novak, who won the title in Gstaad last
week, now meets defending champion Mikhail Youzhny, who needed three sets to
cool off Nicolas Lapentti, who has been making a resurgence over the past
couple of months, including reaching the final last week in Bastad.
Defending champion Mikhail Youzhny also will be in action against No. 5 seed
Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic. Along with his quest to defend his title,
Youzhny is on the hunt for his first title of the year. The 21-year-old
Russian's best results for the year were semifinal runs in Halle and Doha and
quarterfinal appearances in Munich and Bastad. Last year, Youzhny won his
first ATP career title here, defeating Guillermo Canas in five sets in the
final. Novak, meanwhile, is coming off a title run in Gstaad, where he
stopped Roger Federer in five sets in the final. The Czech now has five ATP
career singles titles. Along with claiming the champion's trophy in Gstaad,
Novak reached the final in Dubai. The two have met five previous times, with
Youzhny claiming the three most recent matches.
