Re: [ATP]Stuttgart, Day 4
賽後報導(節錄):
No. 2 seed Guillermo Coria of Argentina wasted no time against Spaniard David
Ferrer, only dropping two games to win 6-1, 6-1, and gaining confidence as he
improves to a 25-5 record on clay this year. Russian Mikhail Youzhny stopped
the run of No. 5 seed Jiri Novak, who won the Gstaad title last week. Youzhny,
who won his first ATP title last year in Stuttgart, is seeking to win his first
title since that coup.
Another German, unseeded Tomas Behrend, followed up the biggest win of his
career with another win over a seed. After toppling top seed Carlos Moya on
Wednesday, the German then upset No. 13 Max Mirnyi from Belarus. This is the
28-year-old journeyman's sixth quarterfinal appearance at an ATP event. He has
never reached an ATP semifinal, but he won two Challengers earlier this year
(Weiden and San Remo).
Italy's Filippo Volandri also upset No. 14 seed Nikolay Davydenko a day after
he upset No. 4 seed Sebastien Grosjean. Volandri may not be well known, but
he's proven he's a force on clay this year, reaching the quarterfinals at two
Tennis Masters Series events, (Monte-Carlo and Rome), and also the final eight
in Bastad. He's also won two Challengers this year (in Biella and Cagliari).
All of these events were on clay.
Youzhny: "I feel good. It's been tough this year with some injuries [wrist],
but I like my game right now and I'm playing well."
about being defending champion
"Actually, I try not to think about it. It's better if I just think about my
next match and not the fact that I won here last year. But I really like
playing here. It suits me."
about playing Gstaad champion, Novak
"For me it was better that he had five matches and played a tough five-setter
with Federer, even if he came here with confidence. He was a bit tired and I
think he missed some balls he doesn't normally miss."
