Brown 7: Was solid, compact and efficient on the ball, and can cosider himself unlucky to concede the penalty after flicking the ball away with a greattackle. Ferdinand 7.5: He kept Vucinic away from the box, limiting him to long-shots. He was solid even though he could have done with a rest. Pique 7: Similary to Rio, the big spaniard did well to track the runners and was smart in the air. Silverstre 7.5: A great return after a lengthy lay-off, quick across the floor and snappy with tackles and blocks. Hargeaves 9: Was the best player on the park. From the first minute he conbined real commitment with real quality to whip ball in after dangerous cross to stretch the Roma defense. As the game went on he withdrew to shore up the mid field, but came alive again to create the only goal with another peach of a delivery. Carrick 7: Started as one of United' s best players, holding the middle ground and keeping the pressure up by switching the play cleverly. But his influence waned in the second half . Anderson 8: Worked hard and closed space down all night. Was also industrious with the ball and his pace made sure Roma had to turn back out many times. Giggs 6: Made a good start and flashed a few good crosses and passes into the box, but then drifted in and out. Park 7.5: The forward linked up well with Tevez and running midfeilders all night and should have scored at the death. Tevez 8: He never stoped running and causing Roma problems with his intelligent movement. Scored a neat goal with a flick header at the near post. Substitudes Rooney 6: Showed his customary work-rate to press the Roma defender back and constrict the fullbacks from galloping up. He also caused extra space for Tevez to come alive during the final twenty minutes, and with a little more grace the two strikers could fashioned another goal together. G. Neville 5: Recieved the biggest cheer of the night after making his return from a 14 month lay-off. He was given precious few minutes to regain match fitness. O' shea 5: Came on late and kept things ticking over. AS ROMA Doni 8: Made a number of exceptional saves, some from one on one' s, some from stinging shots, but showed buttered fingers on acouple of occasions. Panucci 6.5: The fullback was up against it from the started, and his lack of pace and sharpness showed. Mexes 6: Did poorly at the back for someone of his reputation. Juan 7: Returned to th backline and had a mixed performance. He made a horrible start with his defensive parter, allowing too many players through the middle. He also could have scored at the end. Cassetti 7: Although he drove forward to make the extra man he never really delivered anything telling. De Rossi 4.5: The Italian could have changed the game from the penalty spot, but didn' t, blazing well over in horrible fashion. You cannot miss these, more so in such games! Was also bullied out of the game for large periods. Pizarro 6.5: Did his usual mopping up work tirelessly, but lacked the pace to keep up with runnersfrom deep. Taddei 6.5: Worked hard and showed intent to make his mark by shoothing at will from any distance, but fail to show much creative spark. Perrotta 6: Didn' t stamp his authority on the game at all. Mancini 7.5: Was Roma' s best attacking option, providing width and danger on the ball. He won a dubious penalty, but thoughout the game he was a spark. Vucinic 6.5: He played up fromnt on his own, he linked the play well and was a threat, although mainly from distance. Substitudes Tonetto 6.5: The ageing fullback showed plenty in the little time he had, kepping the width and whipping in numerous dangerous crosses. Giuly 5: Was given little time to affect the game.
