But spare a thought for some of Australia's other tennis stars who will stand beside her as finalists for the award to name the most outstanding player of 2011. Last year, as French Open runner-up, Stosur won the inaugural Newcombe Medal, named after Australian tennis legend John Newcombe. In 2011 she went one better, becoming the first Australian woman in 31 years to win a grand slam title when she beat Serena Williams in the US Open final. "I'm thrilled to be nominated for the Newcombe Medal again this year," world No.6 Stosur said. "It was a fantastic event last year, a real celebration of all the great people, players, coaches, communities, clubs and volunteers involved in tennis in Australia." The award will be presented in Melbourne on December 5. Fellow finalists Bernard Tomic, Jarmila Gajdosova and Matthew Ebden know it is hard to look past Stosur. Gajdosova, who overcame some devastating personal problems to be nominated for a second time, has no problem with it.
