The American - champion in 1995, 2000 and 2001 - recorded his 17th straight win in Melbourne with a 6-2 3-6 6-3 6-4 success. After missing the championships through injury last year, Agassi looks in the form to reach another final. He consistently raised his game when it mattered against Escude, particularly in a remarkable third set. In the last five games 15 break points went begging, with the Frenchman missing 12 chances to break Agassi's serve. (T__T) Escude also went 3-1 up in the fourth set, but the number two seed broke straight back and again for a 5-4 lead before serving out the match. "That was a dangerous one for me and it feels great to get through it," Agassi said. "He plays risky, he plays his shots, but he's also going to miss a few as well. I played the big points as best I could. "This was one match that I needed to step up and I did." Fourth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero came through a torrid battle with France's Fabrice Santoro to make the last 16. The Spaniard triumphed 4-6 6-3 4-6 6-2 7-5 and was frustrated by the plucky Santoro who saved four match points. (^^好驕傲) Sebastien Grosjean was also in sparkling form as he trounced Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti to advance to the fourth round. The Frenchman, a former semi-finalist in Melbourne, served up some blistering groundstrokes in a 6-1 6-3 6-3 victory.
