"I've made a couple adjustments with my hands, just looking to shorten my swing," he said. "I was missing 91, 92 mph fastballs. That never happened before." With the Angels' infield hit hard by injuries, Wood could get more playing time at the big league level to test those changes. "I think he's searching for a couple things," Scioscia said "Right now, he's caught in between - trying to get comfortable, trying to make some adjustments in his path to the ball. He's going to figure it out." Conside r the powerful young infielder a potential breakthrough candidate in the coming weeks and months. He is too risky to use outside of the deepest of AL-only leag ues at this point, but his potential is immense and could start coming through once he finally gets into a little bit of a groove.
