http://0rz.tw/5920l 11/02/2006 5:00 PM ET Ichiro snares sixth straight Gold Glove Mariners outfielder has won award every year of his career By Corey Brock / MLB.com SEATTLE -- Mariners manager Mike Hargrove wasn't the least bit concerned about how Ichiro Suzuki would react to being moved from the comforts of right field to center field during the 2006 season. "He's amazing," Hargrove said. "He's a tremendous athlete. You could probably put him at shortstop or second base and he would do good there, too. ... He's that kind of athlete." For his defensive prowess in right field and in center field, Ichiro was awarded his sixth consecutive Gold Glove on Thursday. Suzuki didn't just fare well in center field after being moved there -- with his permission, of course -- he excelled there, a testament to one of baseball's best defensive outfielders. Ichiro has won a Gold Glove every year he's been in the Major Leagues. He trails only Ken Griffey Jr. (10) for the franchise lead in Gold Gloves. The Mariners have had at least one Gold Glove winner since 1987. The 20-year streak is the longest in the Major Leagues. Ichiro started the season in right field, but moved to center field in August after Jeremy Reed broke his right thumb and when it was determined that rookie Adam Jones wasn't ready to handle the position on a full-time basis. Ichiro informed Hargrove during the final week of the regular season that he would play center field again in 2007. Ichiro committed three errors in 393 chances and had 11 assists, the fourth straight year he's reached double digits in assists. Ichiro is joined on the AL Gold Glove team this year by two AL West colleagues -- Texas first baseman Mark Teixeira and Oakland third baseman Eric Chavez -- along with catcher Ivan Rodriguez (Detroit), pitcher Kenny Rogers (Detroit), second baseman Mark Grudzielanek (Kansas City), shortstop Derek Jeter (New York) and outfielders Torii Hunter (Minnesota) and Vernon Wells (Toronto).
