When a rumor isn't even a rumor
A lot of people have sent me this link today from Sekou Smith at the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution, but I've been reluctant to post it because, as best I
can tell, it has exactly zero basis in fact. Here's the gist, courtesy of
Sekou (who I highly respect as a journalist):
But I've been hearing all sorts of interesting things regarding the Hawks
(and that $8 million in cap space) and the interest teams have in dealing
with them or trying to enlist their help in getting a deal done.
The best one sent my way over the weekend: a three-team deal involving the
Hawks, Portland and Washington. How does this one grab you. The Blazers send
Jamaal Magloire to Washington, the Wizards send Brendan Haywood and Jarvis
Hayes to the Hawks and the Hawks send Salim Stoudamire, Esteban Batista and
Lorenzen Wright to the Blazers?
First off, that doesn't sound like much of a deal for the Blazers, especially
since someone would have to get cut to get the Blazers under the max roster
requirement (if I'm wrong about that, I'm sure one of you will let me know).
But secondly, and most importantly, Smith doesn't really even lead on that
someone who is actually involved with the NBA sent it his way. As far as I
can tell, it's just pontification.
And by the way; another Stoudamire in Portland? And one with a bad atttitude?
I doubt that.
