What do the Portland Trail Blazers need to get to the next level? Depending on who you ask you will get a different answer just about every time. Some will tell you they need a point guard, others will tell you to just be patient and wait on the maturation of Jerryd Bayless. One thing is for sure – with 12 players already guaranteed to be under contract in 2009-10, the Blazers probably won't be bringing in five rookies via this year's draft. Add to that they had three rookies in their rotation last season (Greg Oden, Nicolas Batum, and Rudy Fernandez) and another on the bench (Bayless). (#24 Taj Gibson PF) In the second round Josh Heytfelt or Jeff Pendergraph, both power forwards, could be available with the first of the two picks. If Portland wants to choose a scorer here Marcus Thornton or Jermaine Taylor may be available. Late in the second round some players who fit Portland's needs could include DeMarre Carroll, Robert Dozier, Chris Johnson, or any of a number of foreign players the Blazers could snag the rights to, just because. Why say "could"? Because this writer thinks you need to be patient and let Jerryd Bayless grow. There has been no indication Portland is willing to move him, so if they bring in someone like Andre Miller (who is reportedly tops on their free agent wish list), what does that mean?
