While the Trail Blazers' big man can't seem to catch a good break, he showed signs of promise in his 21 games this season. Oden scored in double figures 12 times, grabbed 10 or more rebounds in eight contests and posted five double-doubles. In 20 games before the injury, Oden ranked fourth in the league in field goal percentage (60.5). Defensively, Oden anchored the middle for the Trail Blazers. He led Portland in rebounds eight times and blocks on 16 occasions. The challenge for the Blazers early this season was finding balance offensively with an improved Oden playing alongside established scorers Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.
