Ryan as placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with soreness between his
shoulder and back, the Associated Press reports.
Recommendation: Manager Cito Gaston said Ryan's muscle soreness may be the
reason for a drop in velocity this season. Gaston also said it was "more than
likely" that Scott Downs will close while Ryan is sidelined. When he's
finally healthy, Ryan will need a minor league rehab assignment before
rejoining the Blue Jays.
