Finally, with their last selection of the first day, the Milwaukee Brewers
selected shortstop Josh Prince from Tulane University.
After transferring from the University of Texas after his freshman year,
Prince struggled mightily at the plate amidst big expectations. He hit .236
and was a large disappointment for Tulane. That was before he realized that
he had an astigmatism in his eye, however.
Once that "minor" situation was rectified before the 2008-2009 school year,
Prince went on to hit .363/.481/.534. He displays wonderful patience at the
plate, has a little bit of pop, and plays solid defense. Some thought he was
a fourth or fifth round talent, but his signability and solid (though
unimpressive) skills all around made the Brewers pop him in the third round.
