Wang injures right foot against Astros
Yankees ace leaves game after pulling up while running bases
HOUSTON -- Yankees right-hander Chien-Ming Wang was removed from Sunday's game\
after suffering an apparent injury to his right foot while running the bases \
at Minute Maid Park.
With New York batting in the sixth inning, Wang was waved home on Derek Jeter'\
s two-run single to right field. Wang scored but was hobbled as he rounded thi\
rd base, hopping home and pointing to his right foot but grabbing at his right\
knee.
Robinson Cano scored ahead of Wang on the play and immediately waved to the du\
gout, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi and trainer Steve Donohue came out to he\
lp Wang off the field and down the dugout steps.
Wang reached base on a fielder's choice groundout earlier in the inning facing\
Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt. Coming into the game with a 7-2 record and a \
4.30 ERA, Wang had hurled five scoreless innings against the Astros, scatterin\
g six hits while walking none and striking out three.
