Agnieszka on the Wimbledon grass: “There are no grass courts in Poland. We have fake grass, that’s all. People in Poland are always trying to imagine what it’s like to play on real grass. It’s very tough to take care of grass courts in Poland. I remember in 2005, when I won the junior Wimbledon title, it was my first trip to England and the first time that I played on grass. From the first practice, I liked grass, and I really felt good on the surface. I have good memories of that summer so since then I’ve continued to have fun. Grass is so different to other surfaces – it’s not like carpet, or clay, or hard. It’s just so different to everything else. Grass is a surface that you either like or you don’t. You can’t practise on it that much. You just have to like it.” Agnieszka on her sister Urszula, the world No 54 in singles, and her doubles partner here: “Of course, it’s helped having a family member around. It’s fun to be together and you feel as though you’re at home because someone from you family is there with you. We don’t always play the same tournaments, but we’re always in touch. We’re best friends. I think it’s much better when to have someone from your family there. I wouldn’t say there was a rivalry. We’re always supporting each other. When she wins a match, I’m even happier than when I win a match. It’s great to have someone there the whole time who you really care about. I’ve got someone there that I find it easy to talk to, and that means that I don’t feel alone when I’m on the tour. The tennis season is pretty long. Here in Wimbledon we share a house. We have seperate rooms, of course, but we feel much better when we’re together.” Agnieszka on their personalities: “I think they are pretty similar, there’s just one year’s difference between us, and we’ve been practising together since the beginning. It’s 18 years now, so it’s a pretty long time. We went to the same school, and we’ve always done evrything together. We like similar things. We’re very close.” Agnieszka on playing doubles together during Wimbledon and the Olympics: “We just found that her ranking is good enough to make the cut. So now we’re going to practise here and see whether we can do well at the Olympics. It will be great to represent Poland with my sister. We’ve been working towards that our whole lives. Playing at the Olympics is one of the best things you can do, and it’s going to be great for our parents to watch their daughters playing together.”
