http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/dec19k.html Colomba handed Cagliari job Tuesday 19 December, 2006 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cagliari have confirmed the appointment of Franco Colomba following the dismissal of Marco Giampaolo on Sunday. The 51-year-old returns to Sardinia after working for Olbia in 1993-94, his first job in Serie C2 after spells as youth Coach at Modena and Spal. The tactician then worked with Novara, Salernitana and Reggina, before moving to Serie A in 1998 with Vicenza but was fired after 19 matches. Colomba then returned to Reggina in 1999, where he stayed for three seasons, and in 2004 he made his second comeback to the Amaranto side, managing to avoid relegation after a play-off match won against Verona. His last job with a Serie A club was with newly-promoted Livorno in 2004-05, but it abruptly ended in January when he was fired and replaced by Roberto Donadoni. He was then called by Serie B side Avellino in October 2005 to replace Francesco Oddo, but the southern outfit were relegated after a play-off loss to Albinoleffe. Cagliari are currently eighth from bottom with 16 points, having only earned two victories, 10 draws and four defeats so far.
