Earlier reports from Spanish paper Marca, and Italian news station Sky Sport Italia claimed Los Merengues were ready to swoop for the highly-rated Italian after hitting a brick wall in their pursuit for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso, and Roma's Daniele De Rossi.
