Enzo Maresca successfully completed his switch to Olympiakos at the
weekend following a difficult season with Sevilla last term.

The 29-year-old has a falling out with coach, Manolo Jimenez which
resulted in him spending large parts of the campaign warming the
bench and he in fact played no more than 10 competitive games from
start to finish.

But as he prepares to begin his new adventures in Greece, he chose
to highlight some of his happier memories in Andalucia.

“I don’t want to remember the bad moments now. I want to remember
all the people of Sevilla and the coach I had before [Juande Ramos]
rather than all the other trivial things,” he said during a press
conference.

“I had several good moments, and the worst was no doubt when we lost
our team-mate, Antonio Puerta.

“Although a lot of people here will recall the first UEFA Cup we won,
I remember the second one better because I scored some very important
goals,” he added.

Maresca then went on to admit that had it not been for the problems
with Jimenez, “the story would have been very different”.

He also touched on why he decided not to return to Italy and chose
Olympiakos instead.

“My first objective was to go back to Serie A, but Genoa, who were
very interested in me, only wanted a loan deal while Sevilla wanted
a transfer,” he explained. “I just hope I can play again in Italy
before I retire from football.

“But for now, I want to continue winning more titles and I can achieve
that in Greece. I want to help Olympiakos go further in the Champions

“They’ve been searching for a midfielder like me, and that was what
made me decide,” he ended.

Olympiakos have made Maresca’s move official and the Italian will pen
a three-year deal with the Piraeus giants.
