Cardinals reliever Adam Wainwright became the 22nd player in history to hit
the first pitch he saw as a major leaguer for a homer, according to CBS
SportsLine.comand SABR research. He also was the third reliever to hit a home
run in his first career at-bat, joining Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm (in 1952)
and former rookie of the year John Montefusco (in 1974).
