The Celtics are ahead of schedule when it comes to pre-draft workouts,
said Danny Ainge, executive director of basketball operations, over the
weekend.
Compared with this time last year, Boston has brought in almost three
times as many players to its training facility. Five players traveled to
Waltham last week, with five more scheduled for this week.
The prospects range from 6-foot-11-inch Predrag Samardziski out of
Serbia-Montenegro, who has worked out for the team, to 6-7 high schooler
Dorell Wright, rumored to have received a commitment from Ainge and
due in this week.
Six-foot-6 New Jersey high schooler J.R. Smith is in town for a workout,
and UConn 6-1 point guard Taliek Brown and 6-10 Marcus Douthit of
Providence are also scheduled for this week. Another Big East player,
5-10 point guard Andre Barrett, a quick, strong passer from Seton Hall,
has worked out.
The Celtics also have worked out 6-9 Missouri forward Arthur Johnson,
6-foot Memphis guard Antonio Burks, and 6-4 Utah guard Nick Jacobson.
Terrence Hill, a 6-5 guard from Division 2 national champion Kennesaw
State, is due in for a look this week.
The backcourt from highly ranked Saint Joseph's, Jameer Nelson and
Delonte West, is scheduled to visit Boston in June.
