The negotiations between the Celtics and the Clippers are as close to
completion as they have been throughout talks that would ultimately free up
Doc Rivers to become the Clippers new head coach.

The Celtics have held firm on wanting a first-round pick as compensation for
releasing Rivers from the three-year, $21 million he has remaining on his
contract, and the Clippers appear to finally be open to giving the C's just
that.
Two NBA sources told CSNNE.com that the Clippers were giving serious thought
over the weekend to offering the Celtics a protected first-round pick in
2015, as compensation for Rivers. However, the Celtics' preference was for a
first-round pick in next year's draft, which is expected to be among the most
star-studded since the 2003 class which produced superstars like LeBron
James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.
The two teams are expected to spend today working out the details of the
deal, and send it to the league office on Monday for approval.
Another league source indicated that if the Rivers-to-the-Clippers deal goes
through, talks will resume between the two sides in a separate trade that
would ultimately send Kevin Garnett to the Clippers as well.
"No matter what anyone says, those two are connected," the source said of
Rivers and Garnett. "You don't get Doc and leave Kevin in Boston. It may not
happen right away, but if Doc's in L.A., KG won't be too far behind."
Garnett has a no-trade clause, and while he has indicated many times that he
wants to finish his career in Boston, he has also stated that Rivers is the
one coach he wants to play for.
If Rivers is gone, sources have indicated that Garnett will lift his
no-trade clause to play for whatever team Rivers is coaching.
